Skype is very controversial communicator with a lot of issues. I was using this application even before it was acquired by Microsoft. After this, all problems have started to appear. In my opinion, the most annoying is the fact that Microsoft is limiting the list of supported platforms over and over. At the beginning, they have stopped the development of Linux version. Now, Microsoft even does not want to develop Skype application for their own Windows Phone 8 and 8.1 operating systems.

I realize that this is a business and it is only a matter of competition for customers, but I was very surprised when I found out that the Redmond company does these numbers not only to competitors, but also to its own users. At the beginning, they have provided Windows 10 update only for limited versions of Lumia smartphones. A lot of people were disappointed that they have stuck with Windows Phone 8.1 for good.

I never thought that Microsoft will end support of Skype for their own operating systems older than Windows 10.

The fact is that Microsoft tries to promote Windows 10 wherever this is possible. This time they try this by using Skype application. Officially, the matter is that Skype has been rewritten from the scratch and it is currently working with the Azure cloud, which increases system performance and its scalability. The consequence of this is that it will not be supported by older version of Skype application which was available in Windows Phone Store for Windows Phone 8 and 8.1 operating system. It seems that users of old Lumia smartphone who did not receive Windows 10 update have to replace their mobiles. However, will they choice a smartphone with Windows operating system on board again? It may end in this way that they will decide to buy cheap mobile with Android.
