It looks like Samsung and Qualcomm like to work together. This is very interesting, because Samsung has its own chipsets, i.e. Exynos processors. However, it does not interfere with common interests. The Samsung Galaxy S8 was the first smartphone on the market with the Snapdragon 835 chipset. The Galaxy Note 8 will get its successor, i.e. the Qualcomm Snapdragon 836. This would be also the first smartphone with this chipset.

Do Koreans want to compensate their customers for the lack of a fingerprint reader integrated with the touch screen? Galaxy Note 8 will be very reminiscent of the Galaxy S8+, so it must stand out. A little bigger screen and SPen are not enough. We all hoped that Samsung will master the fingerprint reader under display technology and it will be used in the Note 8. However, it will not happen. Recently there have been leaks in the network that the new Korean flagship model will not have this functionality. That is why Samsung will most likely place the unhappy fingerprint scanner at the back of the case right next to the camera. Again…

Qualcomm Snapdragon 836 in Galaxy Note 8 is supposed to be a consolation prize.

What should the new chipset stand for? Obviously, it will be faster than Snapdragon 835. The number of cores will not change, but the performance cores will be clocked at 2.5 GHz instead of 2.45 GHz. The performance boost will be noticeable on the graphics card module that will run at 740 MHz. Unfortunately, these are all changes. The rest, including supported wireless technologies, remains unchanged. The Snapdragon 836 will also support the 4×4 MIMO and it will have an X16 LTE modem that can download mobile data with speed up to 1 Gbps.

Other smartphones with the new Qualcomm chipset will be the LG V30 and the next flagship Google Pixel series. These are speculations for now. However, we had a similar situation a year ago. That’s when Qualcomm released the Snapdragon 821, which was a bit faster than the 820, and it was in all the flagships released on the second half of the year. Another important chipset will of course Snapdragon 845, but we will see it in the next year in the LG G7.
