HMD Global is cautiously conquering the Android smartphone market. The first model was Nokia 6, which turned out to be a typical mid-range device. Later, we got to know a few more powerful models, but even presented at MWC 2018 Nokia 8 Sirocco does not have the most efficient chipset available on the market. However, not everything is lost yet. In the second half of this year, we should see the Nokia mobiles with Snapdragon 845. These will be Nokia 8 Pro and Nokia 9.
Nokia 8 Sirocco was quite warmly received during MWC 2018. However, this smartphone was equipped only with Snapdragon 835. Therefore, the new flagship of the Finns can not match the most powerful flagships of the first quarter of 2018, which are Samsung Galaxy S9 and Sony Xperia XZ2. This should not be noticeable in everyday use of a smartphone, however Snapdragon 845 is 30% faster than its predecessor. Therefore, if you are planning to buy a new smartphone with the Nokia logo this year and you care about performance, then you should wait with the final choice.
Nokia 8 Pro and Nokia 9 will have the Snapdragon 845 chipset
Nokia 8 Pro is expected to appear on the market in August this year. Unfortunately, we do not know too much about this model. Rumours only mention about the processor and the 5.5-inch screen. Nokia 9 is expected to appear a month later and have a 5.7-inch screen and a penta-lens camera with 5 lenses. A larger model will cost more or less the same as other flagships that will appear this year. Whereas the Nokia 8 Pro is supposed to be an interesting alternative for Samsung Galaxy S9, LG G7 and HTC U12.
Will Nokia get a smartphone market this way? HMD Global has high ambitions and builds a strong portfolio quite quickly. However, many models of similar smartphones can work to the disadvantage of the company. Customers who do not keep up with technology blogs will be simply confused. It will be quite difficult for a lot of people to understand how different Nokia 8, Nokia 8 Sirocco and Nokia 8 Pro are. I hope that HMD Global will quickly develop a strategy that will allow to build a comprehensive and transparent offer.
