What is the biggest advantage of Google devices? The Pixel series is characterized by the fact that its smartphones are the first to receive Android updates and support all new technologies developed by the Mountain View giant. The same can be the case for smartwatches, which are to debut this year together with the flagship Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL.

Google recently changed the name of the Android Wear platform to Wear OS by Google. Was it a pure cosmetic change, or maybe a further treatment, it’s hard to judge. Unfortunately, smartwatches with Android are not very popular among people using the so-called wearable equipment. The leader here is Apple, whose Apple Watch 3 received the communication module supporting the LTE networks. Perhaps the Pixel smartwatch will also have this function. However, this is not the most important thing. Apple towers over the rest thanks to the ecosystem that it created, which ensures the tight integration of the smartwatch and smartphone. Maybe Google is going to create something similar.

The Google Pixel Smartwatch is expected to be available in 3 variants

According to Evan Blass, who is known for reliable leaks, Google is currently working on 3 smartwatches, which have been named Triton, Ling, and Sardine. All models are to be equipped with the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 chipset. The new SoC is primarily characterized by a much lower energy consumption. There is nothing to cheat. The engineers working on the clothing electronics are focused on the effective use of a small battery mounted in a smartwatch. Any algorithm that reduces the demand for computing power and does not affect the usability of the device is at a premium.

It is not known what individual smartwatches will be used by Google. Perhaps they will be equipped with shields of various sizes. It is also possible that not all models will connect to LTE networks. This function also requires the operation of an electronic SIM card (eSIM) via the operator’s network. Unfortunately, few operators support this solution. That’s why Apple Watch 3 LTE is not available in Poland.
